Team Switchboard is made up of an incredible group of individuals who get it done. We’re excited for you to meet our fantastic team. This week, we’re featuring Breda Gregan, our talented communications coordinator.
Tell our audience a little about yourself…
I am originally from Ireland and made a move to Vancouver in 2019. Since then, I have been exploring beautiful BC and all the outdoor activities it offers, learning some new skills, including snowboarding and kayaking. I have worked in the communications and events sector for five years now. My previous roles included wedding planning, social media management and communications coordinator, working across the tourism, finance, and tech sectors.
What do you love about working at Switchboard?
I love the team spirit about Switchboard. Since starting, the team has been nothing but supportive. I feel like I have been part of the Switchboard family for a long time, although I am a new member. Everyone makes you feel at home and wants to see you grow and flourish, which is great.
What motivates you to work hard?
What motivates me to work hard is the client. Since my role as a wedding planner, I have always expressed to people that there is no monetary value that can trump the feeling you receive when you have made someone else’s dreams come true. Helping others is a key part of my personality, both professional and personal.
What books are you reading right now or what’s your favourite book?
I am currently reading two books, one novel and one non-fiction.
The novel is: When life gives you Lululemons and is a fun, easy read.
The non-fiction is: Working With Idiots – this is a book about the four different personality types and is really interesting to read for the business world and for interacting with people daily. Communication is key to life, and learning how to communicate with different personalities can really help you excel in different areas.
Tell us three interesting facts about yourself…
I am very passionate about Irish culture and have Irish danced for most of my life from a young age until my 20’s.
My original career path after high school was science, but with my personality and interest in all things media and events, paired with my organization skills, it was clear I would be happier in a people-facing career.
I was a stage school kid, and did all things singing, dancing, acting & poetry.
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Although it is not very calorie-friendly, it would have to be my mum’s Sunday Roast dinner, with lots of knorr gravy (Irish staple!)
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
A perfect day for me would be a bluebird day, snowboarding in Whistler or Big White with my friends, topped with a beautiful sunset. (I have a slight sunset obsession).
Besides the necessities, what one thing could you not go a day without?
Besides communicating with the important people in my life, the one thing I couldn’t go a day without would be positivity. I try to be positive in all the things I do. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and although there may be negative things that happen in your life, they happen to us all. I try to focus on the positive.
A method I have used is for every negative thing you have going on, try to think of two positive things that outweigh the negative. By doing this, you are automatically switching your mindset for the two positives things in your life versus the one negative, creating a happier and more uplifting mood.
