June 3, 2021
Team Switchboard is made up of an incredible group of individuals who get it done. We’re excited for you to meet our fantastic team. Today, we’re featuring Kimesha Walters, Communications Consultant extraordinaire!
Tell our audience a little about yourself…
Journalism may have been my first love, but public relations has stolen my heart. I’m a seasoned PR pro with a passion for crafting meaningful stories that connect with people. An eternal optimist who thrives on combining creative brand experiences with consumer engagement, I believe in tailoring strategies that tap into organizations’ core values. My experience spans PR, corporate communications, marketing, social media and advertising across a range of industries. I have executed projects in Canada, the United States and Jamaica, where I’ve managed some of the foremost brands in the world: Adidas, Hyundai, Microsoft, Samsung, Scotiabank and many more. When I’m not busy finding PR solutions for my clients, you can find me travelling the world or supporting my community through voluntary initiatives such as Amazing Prospects, which I founded in 2010 to give back to my Jamaican primary school, Prospect Primary.
What do you look forward to most about working at Switchboard?
I’m excited about working with the diverse team, securing big wins for our clients, and helping Switchboard to further cement its name in the PR industry.
What motivates you to work hard?
I love the sense of accomplishment of setting goals, working hard to achieve them, and ticking them off my list.
What’s your favourite book?
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. It reminds me to love my work and to believe that my work loves me back, and to quit holding on to the idea of perfectionism (as this can turn into procrastination). More than anything, it reminds me that I don’t need a permission slip from anyone to live a creative life.
Tell us three interesting facts about yourself…
- I love travelling. I can hardly wait for things to settle down and for travelling to become ‘normal’ again.
- I earned the nickname “Kim Possible” because of my knack for finding solutions.
- On Amazing Prospects’ 10th anniversary, in 2020, the charity launched a scholarship to reaffirm its commitment to educational development.
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Succulent jerk pork, “festival” (fried dumplings), and roast breadfruit from Portland in my home country of Jamaica. There’s something about having this meal that takes me on a trip down memory lane, to relaxing days by the beach, and to happy times with those I love the most.
If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
My top choice would be going on an adventure while jamming to some of my favourite tracks. Everything’s better with music!
